SUSTAINABLE FARMING PRACTICES

Mount Tyson Piggeries specialises in the practice of fully sustainable and environmentally friendly farming techniques.

Solid waste from the deep litter piggery sheds is stockpiled, composted and regularly turned until maturity. This richly nutritious by-product is then mixed with selected top soil and spread over the paddocks using a high capacity belt feed spreader, prior to tilling lightly into the topsoil.

Treated liquid waste from the settlement ponds is also sprayed evenly onto the paddocks. These ongoing practices over many years have completely eliminated the need for conventional chemical based fertilisers.

Trial areas using conventional fertiliser together with zero additive control strips have been maintained for on-going comparisons.

The results have proven to us conclusively that natural organic piggery waste is by far the most effective long term fertiliser for increased crop production with major improvements in soil nutrition and micro organism activity.

The external environment is continuously monitored using a state of the art approved weather station, WeatherMaster 2000 from Environdata.
